Halloween Update.

As it's Halloween this weekend, I have made a new homepage for my website which will just be up this weekend. [There will also be a Christmas themed homepage for December] Below is the image finished with an image of the reverse side as I am always interested in how the two side differ aesthetically.

The Front

Reverse Side

This week, whilst also being ill with the annual cold/flu/chest infection, I have been planning my sketchbook project pages and layouts. My working space has been a bit of mess with notes and fabrics, as usual. But updated the washing line with newest work and photocopy of old work which still inspires me.

 Below:Notes for Sketchbook Project.

Busy at the moment catching up with myself after resting off this blooming illness. Hopefully in full working order next week.

And You Said, It Was Like a Fire Around the Brim

A few of my favourite Music Videos that I love the visuals for and immensely curious of the creative process.

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead
I have been intrieged for more than two years how this was made, and just get excited about the spinning cubes with hands and faces on. Simple and really nice colour to the video.

Prodigy - Warriors Dance
Visually amazing animation that I just get sucked into watching everytime. All the bands videos are quite full and demand the viewers attention, such as the Voodoo People Pendulum remix [below].

Blur- Coffee and TV

Possibly one of the only videos you watch and cannot help but smile due to the creation of the milk carton character skipping along to the music. The narrative that is built around the carton is simple and yet beautifully engrossing as you follow him on his great adventure.

Festive Homepage

Working on a temporary homepage piece to replace the purple 'hello' that has been there for ages now. Also trying to develop a Xmas related one, which isn't going as well so will be going back to the friendly welcome after halloween has passed.
Progress so far:
I am overwhelmed about the colour choice as I didn't think they would work as well as they have.
Familiar friend.
The Halloween/Twitter pun in the making...

I have nearly completed the quilt commission but due to illness, I have put it to one side so that my client will not catch what I have had all week. Hoping to finish early next week if I am better. Also fiddling with ideas for Sketchbook project and new bigger project for Dec/Jan.

Think of all the beauty..

I have been working towards this for a while, but I finally finished the large patch on the quilt.

I found an appropriate quote after searching far and wide. I still have very small patches to do, but have spent the last week working and doing experiments for other projects. Must make a list of prioritizing projects, and must be better organized. Too many new random ideas i keep scribbling down!
My desk full of new ideas which I can't prioritize until i have completed my list from Sept.

Silver Lining

Spontaneous ideas are always more interesting.

Original idea. Made 11th Oct.

The idea came from looking at a couple of previous projects and a keen interest to work with random imagery to create mixed media piece. The concept is based around the idea of when we pick up an abandoned newspaper/magazine and scribble funny features and speech bubbles etc over the images. I like the humour and impulsive comments that you find left in newspapers.

Continuing the concept 12th Oct. Not as keen on this...

More thought was put into this and I feel like it just doesn't work as well. Colour palette fine, just the content of it isn't as powerful. The Harry Potter reference could easily be lost on some people.

I am currently working on a commission for re-patching a quilt, and have been left with creative freedom for each of the patches. I have used a few personal quotes that relate to the owner of the quilt and have also incorporated  the existing patten on the quilt into a few patches so there isn't an overload of type on the quilt.

Maurizio Anzeri

I came across this artwork last week which reminded me much of my own work. The concept of their work is very much different to mine, but the similarities over-lap. But I do love what they have done: Yarn + Photography = interesting geometric imagery

I like the simple the use of colour against each other, more so the opposite colours like above rather than the tones of blue for example. The shapes have been created with the thread in very precise patterns which I cant help but get excited about with the compositions against the photography images.

It gets me excited about using photography in my work again, which is occurring by christmas and you will soon see i expect.
